new satellite communications service is driving shipping and workboat industries towards a digital transformation. Orange Business Services and BlueTide Communications have joined forces to provide vessel owners with a suite of communications, navigation and asset management services, delivered through Ku-band VSAT using a global satellite network.
Orange is providing BlueTide with managed Ku-band capacity that includes the ability to switch to alternative satellite beams for seamless global coverage. This includes teleport connectivity across all major shipping and sailing routes.
BlueTide uses this connectivity to provide internet and data services, navigation, cybersecurity, voice and video, corporate applications and asset management for vessels.
“The maritime industry depends on consistent, reliable communications between ship and port to operate,” said BlueTide chief executive Emil Regard. “Running our solutions through Orange will have a transformative effect on how maritime shipping is conducted.”
With this connectivity, vessels are able to receive and transmit real-time data, including updates on a navigation path. Vessel masters can better predict inclement weather, and access corporate applications in the cloud. The Orange/BlueTide collaboration provides crew welfare services, including internet, entertainment and phone services.

How to calculate Drain Current and GMDSS battery life during GMDSS SRC Under normal circumstances, it is but natural for the ship staff to get confused with the drain current of GMDSS equipment during survey. This often leads to complicated situation where  a proper explanation becomes crucial to convince the Class surveyor especially if the battery is more than two years old. As per IMO, the GMDSS battery (reserve source) should be replaced once in 3 years irrespective of the condition of the battery after three years.
