Marlink adds 4G option in Gulf of Mexico

Marlink reports that it has added new Tampnet 4G LTE services in the Gulf of Mexico, which will allow customers of its Sealink multi-band network to make use of GSM data connectivity alongside the VSAT, L-band satcom and Wi-Fi services it already provides in the region.
The Norwegian satellite services provider had previously integrated Tampnet connectivity into its Sealink network in the North Sea in 2016, where it is currently being used by a range of vessels in the offshore sector.
“Tampnet 4G LTE has been tried and tested in the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico with focus on fixed installations, but by integrating it with our Sealink network we are making communications even more flexible to support the safety and operational efficiency of mobile assets like offshore support vessels,” said Tore Morten Olsen, president maritime, Marlink.
“Tampnet serves to strengthen Marlink’s already extensive capacity dedicated to offshore operations in the Gulf, helping to ensure that operators seeking an edge by using digital applications can be confident in an always available and cost-effective link to the internet.”
